Kolkata, West Bengal: As reported in recent publications, more than 90% of students prefer learning on smartphones. But to a lot of parents, their children spending most of their time on gadgets is a big complaint. The fact is debatable if e-learning, in this era, is a boon or a bane for students.
According to Vidyasarathi’s ‘India Lockdown Learning’ report, over 10,000 students across 400 cities understand the change taking place in the educational ecosystem. The survey is helpful in the understanding of how students are adopting e-learning which is becoming the norm and the challenges they face in the transition.
Due to the advent of the second wave of Covid-19, 500 million students have been affected as the schools and colleges have been shut down for a long tenure now. Online learning in this case becomes the only saviour to these students in the virtual world.
While a major drawback in the online learning system is the least of face to face interaction, flexibility becomes an advantage. In the process of exchanging knowledge between a teacher and a student, a physical presence and face to face interaction become important as a single punctuation error can change the real meaning of the entire sentence and as it is said half and the improper information is even more harmful than no information. On the other hand, when the nationwide lockdown does not permit for face to face interactions, the flexibility offered by the online classes becomes a boon as the student can choose his or her learning time according to their convenience.
